MATCH REPORT – PSCC v SCC – 20th May 2017

Another damp patch

PSCC WIN

With the lack of a proper match report and my absence (Yuri) from the match itself, I have collated facebook comments that in some way illustrate this most damp of matches!

Charlie Richards It may have been damp, Mighty Stumper Pete Brandon, but was it moist??

Jonathan Savitt
Jonathan Savitt: A game like no other

Report in many halves

We lost in unique manner

Never happened before in my cricket life

Rain, sun, wind and dropped catches

Simple but nice Simon dropped the pie three times. His rugby skills failed him

Jonty ran out Pete who played beautifully. His new bat a treat but his legs….limited movement up the pitch for a slow single !!!!! My error for sure.

Tea taken at 2.15 !!!!! Or was it lunch

Penn st are great chaps for making a new format of a match which might have ended at 4.15

MATCH REPORT – LEY HILL CC versus SCC – 23rd April 2017

Comrades!

A new fixture in the season. One that was, shall we say inherited from the unfortunate scattering of an opposition’s list in the confetti strewn path of history. But what a great fixture to have discovered. The rolling meadows of Bucks and the fortunately shining sun of an April Sunday made this great stage, and our luck further blossomed by the arrival of a very charming oppo.

Yes, I have been drinking. Malbec.

Captain Jontin soon had our ten strong team in an order of some description and after a toss of the coin we were made to bat. Any future historian of the SCC will come to realise that we are not at our best when batting first but why confuse facts with glory and defeat? Our openers, Vlad and Analitch gallumped to the crease with a swagger of a well paid docker at a Glaswegian brothel. They set about the opening bowlers with a cautious trot. Vlad was impeccable. He provided a strong wall of Dorothy through which 35 balls made no impact for 40 minutes and 13 overs. This gave Analitch a chance to unwind and give sucker to his aching run sphincter. Over 72 minutes he notched an astounding 42 runs.

In his support came Harrison with a tip chipping 10. Before being bowled by Batt. But a very pleasant session and with great promise for the season. Then the most wonderful return of Samovar to the SCC. Such a joy to have him back amongst us and a privilege too. Seeing his most famous spinning hook unleashed again filled us with hope. He created a very useful 28 before neing caught Alex off Woodley.

Will and Jon tin had a brief moment together at the crease but a distinct lack of vision helped the latter off abruptly and the formjer for 6. Chip, Soldya and Yuri were removed by an increasingly strong bowling field but Soldya fought on for 3. Yuri was given two bites at the cherry. The first for 0 in his usual potions style but his second charitable bash at 5.

So we had notched up 160 all out across 39 overs. A little help from 51 extras…… 51. Yep……. fifty one.

Tea was nice and I am a push over for a cherry bakewell.

Lown opened and scored 102. There’s no easy way to write that and not feel the rush of sick bile launch itself into your soft pallette so I thought I would just write it straight off. I mean he didn’t rush it, he was there for the 25 overs that they took to get 164 and beat us by 15 overs. He was accompanied by Batt and Woodley for 25 and 10 and finally, James for 8. Batt was delightfully bowled by Samovar and Analitch held a super wicky catch to scoop Woodley.  There were some pricey overs but the worse enemy was dropped catches. Yuri, myself, a terrible culprit. A tidy bowling spell of economic near misses, shat upon by dropping a peach.

The match was lost but a great fixture gained. The pub opposite was also very effective in easing our sorrows. If we had a wrist bowler and another pace bowler….. we may, just may have had them!

Thank you, comrades. One and all.

Hello comrades, below is the results of our AGM from 8th February 2017.

  4. Yankheroff, Jon Hirst
  5. Will Roberts
  6. Simon Woods

A toast to absent friends was warmly received.

TREASURER’S REPORT

  • Treasurer post empty so Yuri stands in for this part
  • Treasurer has stood down after invitation as he was unable to volunteer time – namely Ilyeva, Olivier Lauchenauer
  • A bank statement was presented as a report due to lack of treasury time and input. This was reviewed by all to determine there was no impropriety.
  • A vote was taken on the main issue of whether or not fees should change from the 2016 season and a decision of ‘no change’ was arrived at. Jontin voted against, expressing no opinion in either way!
    • Membership fees are £50 for the season except for under 18s, full time students and those who are over 59.

YANKHEROFF – FIXTURES

Comrade commissar Yankheroff, John Hirst, presented a detailed list of fixtures for 2017 which shall be presented to the comrades soon.

  • It has a splendid schedule and provides a game every other week.
  • A fantastic two day event towards season end.
    • 4 innings match
    • at Baldock
    • Paying for umpires and scorers
  • LMS and BELIEVERS dropped
  • Ley Hill added
  • Biggest season ever!
  • RECRUITMENT DRIVE
    • Yankheroff determined we bring in new blood, at least 2-3 regulars – all in agreement
    • Grateful for young blood at the AGM – let’s see them playing!
    • Start of season drinks required late March early April
  • SCORING HELP
    • Ipad APP of some description required to help in scoring
    • Yuri pointed out the need was equally that of lack of ‘bother’ from some comrades
    • App shall be purchased!
  • A toast of congratulations was given to Yankheroff for stirling work in the fixtures for 2017 and his work last season.

BRANDONOVSKI BY YURI

  • The purchase through charitable collection of a portable defibrillator was raised for a vote and unanimously carried. We shall hope to have one in place by the season end. This will take considerable effort and a plan must be prepared.
  • Twitter feed – Brandonovski wants to contribute further content to that. All agreed.
  • FACEBOOK/BLOG: A long and passionate debate ensued and covered the following areas:
    • Yankheroff felt the blog and its costs was not necessary as it is usurped by Facebook
    • Yuri believe both have their place.
    • The FB group is now public and both events and posts are soon to be on the blog.
    • Although Yuri was happy to maintain the blog under his own funds, the general consensus was to maintain both blog and facebook.
      • FB definitely captures most of our current players
      • Blog is accessible and readily available to those that are not on facebook
  • Brandonovski also sees the need for recruitment and together with Yankheroff and Yuri we shall develop a recruitment drive for about 3-4 new players, over and above the intake of the last two seasons.
  • The shop is still there and selling our club kit: http://www.seriouscricket.co.uk/teamwear/stores/soho-cricket-collective
    • Every paid player should have at least a match shirt, presently at £19.99

DACHA – TRAINING COMMISSAR

  • After keenly volunteering to look after net bookings at Paddington and beyond, Dacha, Dan Woodhouse, was appointed Training Commissar. A unanimously welcomed appointment.
  • We are still happy to use Paddington as our main net facility
  • Plastic stumps for SCC shall be purchased (present stumps are with Yuri)
A hot bed of an AGM

JONTIN – CAPTAINS’ REPORT

  • All comrades to concentrate on fitness
  • Youth in the outfield placed where valuable
  • Always buy your round in the pub
  • Everybody must make a greater effort to know your positions – we shall train in this
  • More talking in the field – keep the Soho spirit up
  • Dacha to enable pre-match warm ups and develop them

YURI – VOTING AND POSITIONS

  • Voting for Treasurer was an odd affair as Brandonovski had said that he would do it if nobody else would – nobody else did. Consequently the commissariat positions are as follows
    • comrade commissar premier – Yuri
    • comrade commissar treasurer – Brandonovski
    • comrade commissar fixtures secretary – Yankheroff
    • comrade commissar of captains – Jontin
    • comrade commissar quartermaster – Brandonovski
    • comrade commissar adjutant – Hodderoff
    • comrade commissar of training – Dacha

AOB

  • By this point it must be noted for the minutes that a fair amount of mist had fogged the eyes of the chairperson and minute-taker, Yuri. Apologies for the brevity throughout, but I believe this was noted:
  • Yankheroff – worried for SCC last season but feels we are all delighted that we are still a team and will play on and on and on. 2017 to be a great season.
  • Possible nicknames were devised for Harrison and Simon.
    • Plemyanik – Harrison
    • Ledz – Simon

THE MEETING CLOSED with the bar still open.
