One million apologies for the terribly late post of this blog. I shall publicly flog myself with a damp sardine. But nothing will stop me from admiring the splendid comrades who attended our end of season awards night at The Union Club on 12th November 2014.

Firstly, let us commence with our most deserving of award winners, winner of the comrades’ comrade award 2014 went to Yankheroff, aka John Hirst. Receiving a significant voting majority in the secret poll, Yankheroff rightly took home the extremely heavy trophy! His exploits on the field and especially behind, meant that he is a worthy winner. The extensive fixture list and negotiation required was down to him and he undertook this task manfully. Congratulations.

Other winners were:

Captaincy Merits:

  • Brandonovski (Peter Brandon)
  • Cobramovich (Tim Graham)
  • Jontin (Jon Savitt)
  • Marx (Mark Blackledge)
  • Yankheroff (John Hirst)
  • Yuri (Philip Richardson)

Most Improved:

  • Chipmunkski (Tim Richardson)

Most Catches: Joint winners

  • Cobramovich (Tim Graham)
  • Soldya (Dan March)

Most Wicket Catches:

  • Robski (Rob Dixon)

Most Wickets Bowled: 11

  • Yuri (Philip Richardson)

Most Runs Scored: 225

  • Dagleyev (Neil Dagley)

We in the commissariat and all comrades, strong in heart and true in spirit, salute you all, comrades! Great work and may you act as inspiration for all present and future comrades to fight, drink and play harder.

MATCH REPORT – Grace Cup Tournament

Chipmunkski
Chipmunkski

All games out of 4 lost.
Last place of 4

Once more we grace the fields of Roehampton. Fields which are as flat as a billiard table, wickets as tended as a maidens vizog. The bacon baps and coffee were laid for us to devour and the reception was warm. Our team this year was new blood, Hodderofski, Yuri, Sewelski, Chipmunkski, Cobramovich, Soldya and of course, Yankheroff! What a line up. The opposition against us were: Deutsche Bank, Slaughter and May, Osborne Clarke and Willis.

What follows now is some random stats. The reason is I couldn’t photograph all of the score sheets for the matches and so I am relying on fond memories of the day by the players. Self verification required, comrades!

From Soldyai got one wicket – caught T.Richardson. Runs – am trying to remember…didn’t get any 4s or 6s – got about 6 runs in the last game and only 1 or 2 in the others I think – maybe 12 runs in total???

From Cobramovich: I only batted in the 2 matches you don’t have. As I walked in after succumbing, the scorers announced me as scoring 13 in the first of these, and 17 in the final one. (2 fours in the later innings). I also got a catch in the first match off Hodderov’s bowling, but no wickets bowling.

From Hodderoffski: 1st Match – 12 runs (not out), 2nd Match – 4 runs (run out), 1 wicket (caught, Cobramovich), 3rd Match – DNB, 1 wicket (bowled), 4th Match – 1 run,  1 wicket (caught and bowled) – 1×6=scored

So comrades, please pay it some heed next season as it truly is good fun and we are able to do a lot of good work for a good cause. Thank you!

2012 End of season Awards!

Cobramovich celebrates award

Comrades, dear Comrades!

We have indeed drawn a firm black line under the season’s official events. There may be a net before the year closes but no more games and no further socials either. But what joy was gleaned from Prosecco, good company, awards and merit and the great comradery of the SCC for our end of season drinkums.

Pogo Films sponsored the event with help from The Union Club providing us space to celebrate and cheer! All other contributions were from you yourselves, the finest cricketing comrades to ever walk the streets of Soho. Our home ground may well be the distant pastures of Suffolk or the closer, wild-life and midge infested plains of Regent’s Park, but our stomping grounds of celebration are firmly set in Soho and long may it last.

A turn out of more than a team with Umpires and scorers too, so a great success. Faces in the crowd too many to mention or remember but some new faces and those rarely seen; Looking forward to seeing more of Hudski (Menhaj Huda) next year and some more fixtures with Nickolai Nastarov (John Altman)

“But what about the prizes?” I hear none of you whimper. Here then are the results:

  • Most Runs Scored throughout 2012: SAMOVAR (Sam Kankanamge)
  • Most Wickets taken by bowling 2012: SOLDYA GRANMA FORRAFIVER (Dan March)
  • Most catches by a fielder 2012: SOLDYA GRANMA FORRAFIVER (Dan March)
  • Most catches by a Wicket Keeper 2012: ROBSKI (Rob Dixon)
  • Most Improved comrade 2012: SEWELLSKI (Andrew Sewell)
  • Captaincy Merit awards: COBRAMOVICH, MARX-B, YURI (Tim Graham, Mark Blacklegde, Philip Richardson)
  • And finally, The Soho Cricket Collective’s Comrades’ Comrade Samovar Trophy went to COBRAMOVICH (Tim Graham)

This latter award was richly deserved by Cobramovich, who despite ties in many quarters holds the finest of Collectivist qualities, provided great guidance on the field and is also our most splendid comrade commissar of Cultural Affairs. It was close, may I add, one point each separated the top comrades. But there can be no doubt in Cobramovich’s worthiness and delight in receiving this splendid, if somewhat bloody heavy, award! Hurrah, comrade commissar!

From my humble self, the comrade commissar premier of the SCC to all comrades, to all those who played for and supported us and to all those with whom we battled, my most heart felt of thank you’s and may we all meet, play and celebrate again in the next season – SCC 2013!
